Nepalese most liked comic duo Madan Krishna Shrestha and Haribansha Acharya premiered their new sanitation message bearing tele-serial 'Sugandhapur' on 30 June, 2010 at the Russian Culture Centre, Kamaladi. The duo continuing their three decades long comic career is coming in this serial to motivate people to stop defecating in the open. It has also aimed to convey the message of changing the hygiene behaviour of people. Speaking at the premiere show, Deputy Director General at Department of Water Supply and Sewerage Binod Chandra Jha stressed that 57 percent population in Nepal still deprived from toilet facility. He further informed that the department is moving ahead to increase toilet coverage and meet the national target of sanitation for all by 2010. Donal Keane, Country Director of Plan Nepal stated that ten million people defecate in the open every day and 10,000 children die due to diarrhoeal diseases every year in Nepal. He is very hopeful to this tele-serial, which has been expected to be one of the effective mediums to motivate communities to maintain sanitation. Haribansha Acharya shared that even the shooting of the serial was found effective to sensitize the people. It has motivated many people visited to watch shooting to build toilets at their homes, he said. |
