Image UNICEF organized third WASH Cluster meeting on 29 July in Lalitpur. The meeting had been held to discuss on the progress of ongoing WASH preparedness intervention and identification of life saving intervention for Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF). Different WASH Cluster members including Oxfam, Save the Children, Nepal Red Cross Society and Department of Water Supply and Sewerage shared about the ongoing WASH preparedness intervention in their working areas.

Image How many Nepalis defecate in the open everyday? Our obvious guess will be 0.5 million, 1 million or 2 million. But, the recent government statistics show that more than 50 percent Nepalis defecate in the open everyday. The number of open defecators in the country is around 16 million, which is 56.96 percent of the total population.

Image An Inter-School Speech Competition has been organized on 2 August in Lalitpur to sensitize students on safe drinking water and enhance their knowledge on drinking water treatment options. The competition with the theme “Drinking Water Treatment Options” has been organized jointly by Environment and Public Health Organization (ENPHO), UN HABITAT, EAWAG/SANDAC and Coca Cola Company.
